Not sure what it is, but every show or movie that I watch today seems to have the ocean in it..and it is making me homesick!
Most of you reading this know me well enough to know that I have a great love for water, especially the beach.
The beach has always been a place of peace for me and a place that is full of so many of lives wonderful memories.
Today I am feeling a bit suffocated and land locked, and in desperate need for the beach & ocean.
So, in honor of that, I am going to talk a bit more about the beach in hopes that I might not feel so homesick...
The beach is a place where I have continually found a sense of peace and amazement at your creation. If I have ever been in need of feeling God's hand in my life or needing to feel in awe of God, the beach has been where I have found it.
I have been blessed to have been to a number of different beaches in my lifetime...the Atlantic ocean during summer visits to Rhode Island, the Pacific ocean growing up in California and again the Pacific during my visits to Hawaii and the Gulf of Mexico in Florida.
I remember the Atlantic ocean as a kid, eating Del's lemonade and playing with cousins and aunts and uncles. I remember going out pretty far in the waves with mom and her promising me that I would be okay and not get knocked over b/c the waves "roll" on the east coast and don't crash as much as they do in the west, and she was right! It picked me up and put me right back down where I started.
I remember the Pacific ocean as being a staple part of my childhood and adulthood. I remember sunday visits to the beach after church and eating alot of fried chicken at those visits (thus my love for the ocean and fried chicken as I got older), boogie boarding with my dad watching us to make sure we didn't drown, eating at The Original Pizza with friends in high school and for years to come after high school, eating chocolate covered bananas and walking and talking for hours with Lisa, renting bikes with friends, going down to Venice with friends in high school while we were supposed to be at Disneyland or other places, laying in the sand for the entire day (from like 9 or 10 am on) until it was dark and having long and fun bonfires, eating good food and watching friends get tatoos...I remember going to Hawaii for the first time with Heather to visit Natalie and our crazy adventures there and all of the other times that I have gotten to go to Hawaii with groups of friends and with Ben.
I love the warmth of the sand in between my toes, the feel of the warm sun on my skin, reading a million books while on vacation lying on the beach and how bronze my skin gets as my freckles decide to pop up.
It amazes me that I have lived in KS for over 4 years now and that I have survived this long without the ocean, besides the quick visit each time I head to southern cali. HOpefully some day soon I'll get to spend more than a quick moment at the beach and rejuvenate my need for the ocean! Until then here are a few fun photos for you to enjoy!
Tonight, I am thankful for the time that I have had with Ben this weekend, for the memories that I have been so blessed to have w/the beach and friends & family and for the amazing creation God has given us with the beach.
